The Story in Mid Atlantic

The 2014 Mid Atlantic Regional went down in Fairfax, Virginia, during the third week of regional competition. The region ultimately sent one man and one woman to the CrossFit Games for the sixth consecutive time.

After expecting to be disappointed on Day 1, Christy Adkins looked to make up ground on Day 2.

“I knew Events 1 and 2 weren’t gonna be my specialty,” Adkins said at the end of Day 2. “Since that point, I knew it was going to be one workout at a time, chip away, and do your best in every one and let everything fall where it is, and I’m happy to be in second place at the end of today.”

Adkins proved why she’s been to the Games five times by fighting back to earn her sixth berth by the end of the weekend.

Ben Smith will join her as a six-time Games athlete. He’s won the Mid Atlantic Regional every year since 2011.

Meanwhile, Jordan Troyan proved last year wasn’t a fluke. The rookie sensation surprised everyone at last year’s regional, qualifying for the Games by beating out seasoned athletes such as Nate Schrader and Steve Pinkerton.

“I knew coming into (regionals), just get through those first two events because I knew a lot of the other events played into my favor,” Troyan said.
