Run the Test: Muscle Pig/Handstand Machine, CrossFit Games

“As the years have gone on in the team competition, you cannot have somebody who is single-faceted. It’s not gonna work anymore. They have to be well-rounded. They have to be CrossFit. There’s no way around that.”

As athletes evolve, so must the tests — especially when programming for team competition at the CrossFit Games.

Programming for the team competition provides a unique opportunity to test the group’s communication, strategy, and problem-solving skills, in addition to athletes’ fitness. The most well-rounded, communicative, and experienced teams will often be most effective at completing the tests, leaving no room for “one-trick ponies” in the group.

At the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games, Muscle Pig and Handstand Machine — Team Events 5 and 6, respectively — presented athletes with new, unknown challenges.

In this episode of Run the Test, Competition Director Adrian Bozman takes you inside Team Events 5 and 6 at the competition.

Boz highlights key elements that encompass team competition, including collaboration, weak links, and strategy. He also explains his decision to put a new handstand push-up standard on display and stresses the importance of being a well-rounded athlete.
