Golden Knights Light Up the Skies at the 2021 Games

The U.S. Army Parachute Team, known as the Golden Knights, is a demonstration and competition parachute team.

The team earned its nickname in 1962 after participating in several skydiving competitions and demonstrations around the world. “Golden” represented the gold medals the team had won in competition and “Knights” referred to “the team’s ambition to conquer the skies.”

Created in 1959, the team was originally named the Strategic Army Command Parachute Team (STRAC) and was composed of 19 airborne soldiers from several military units. Over 60 years later, approximately 95 men and women are a part of the @Golden Knights, US Army Parachute Team, which includes four parachute units, an aviation unit, and a headquarters.
