Will Vellner & Thorisdottir Stand on the Podium in 2022?

In this episode of Games Central, Sean Woodland and Annie Sakamoto discuss the return of Ricky Garard and CrossFit cowboy Sean Sweeney’s pause from competition. The duo also looks at which athletes can dethrone the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games champions in 2022.

After a four-year suspension for testing positive for PEDs, Ricky Garard is set to compete at the Dubai CrossFit Championship in December under the tutelage of Underdog Athletics coach Justin Cotler.

Four-time Games athlete Sean Sweeney announced on Instagram that he will be taking a step back from competition. Sweeney placed 36th at the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games.

2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games champs Justin Medeiros and Tia-Clair Toomey also won this year’s Rogue Invitational, but not without a fight from 2021 Games podium finishers Pat Vellner and Annie Thorisdottir, who took second at the competition. With help from other athletes in the field, could new parents Vellner and Thorisdottir stand atop the podium in 2022?

The off-season masters competition Legends Championship will take place Dec. 9-12. And get ready — the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Open starts Feb. 24.
