Tovar vs. Pichelli? Froning vs. Khalipa vs. Holmberg? No, the real competition was Bozman vs. McKernan.
Continuing their tradition of going head-to-head in the CrossFit Games Open, host Rory McKernan took on Games head judge Adrian Bozman for the second year. Bozman was looking to redeem himself from last year’s loss, but he fell short after McKernan won the first three workouts. Finally, in Open Workout 14.4, Boz took the win, edging out McKernan by three muscle-ups.
When 14.5 rolled around, the men didn’t have much time to complete the workout inside the Kezar Pavilion in San Francisco, Calif.
“So there’s also talk of maybe just grabbing a bar and doing it in the parking lot right now,” Boz said.
McKernan asked his opponent, “What do you want to do in your heart?”
To which his opponent replied, “I want to get it done. In my heart.”
And so thrusters and bar-facing burpees were executed on the concrete outside the venue.
“I think we’re on the same page about what should be taken seriously and what shouldn’t … and I hope that that comes across to people,” McKernan said. “Like, don’t take yourself too seriously.”
