NOTES
The workout begins with the barbell on the floor and the athlete standing tall. After the call of “3, 2, 1… go,” the athlete will perform 80 bar-facing burpees before advancing to the Concept2 rower to pull 4,000 meters.
The workout is over when the rower monitor reads 4,000 meters or the clock reaches 30 minutes.
The athlete’s score is the time it takes to complete the workout or the amount of work completed by the cutoff time. Each meter on the rower will be equal to 1 rep. Scores must be submitted in elapsed time. Do not use a countdown timer.
There is no tiebreak for this workout.
EQUIPMENT
- Barbell
- Standard bumper plates (18-inch diameter) to load barbell for burpee
- Concept2 rower
For each workout, be sure the athlete has adequate space to safely complete all the movements. Clear the area of all extra equipment, people, or other obstructions.
Any athlete who in any way alters the equipment or movements described in this document or shown in the workout video may be disqualified from the competition.
VIDEO SUBMISSION STANDARDS
All video submissions should be uncut and unedited in order to accurately display the performance. A clock or timer with the running workout time should be clearly visible throughout the entire workout. The monitor on the rower also should be clearly visible throughout the entire workout. A close-up of the monitor, clearly displaying zero meters, must be shown prior to starting the workout. Shoot the video from an angle so all movements can be seen clearly meeting the movement standards. Videos shot with a fisheye lens or similar lens may be rejected due to the visual distortion these lenses cause.

1 of 6The monitor on the rower must be set to zero at the beginning of the row.2 of 6The athlete must stay seated on the rower until the monitor reads 4,000 meters. If the athlete is working up to the 30-minute mark, the final pull must be completed at or before the time cap, but the athlete will receive credit for the distance displayed when the monitor comes to a rest (i.e., the athlete will get credit for the rollover distance displayed on the monitor).3 of 6Athletes must use a barbell with 18-inch plates for the burpees. The burpee must be performed perpendicular to and facing the barbell.4 of 6The athlete may jump or step back to lie on the ground. The athlete’s head must be behind the barbell. The chest and thighs must touch the ground at the bottom. The hands and feet must remain inside the width of the plates at the bottom of the burpee. From this position, the athlete may step or jump to their feet.5 of 6The rep is credited when both feet have touched the ground on the opposite side of the barbell. The athlete does not need to land with both feet at the same time. Before starting the next rep, the athlete must be perpendicular to and facing the barbell. If the athlete receives a “no rep” for any reason, the entire repetition must be repeated.6 of 6The athlete must jump over the barbell using a two-foot takeoff. Single-legged jumping or stepping over is not permitted.
