In Loving Memory of Andrew Nuttall

Andrew Richard Nuttall—or Andy Nutts, as his friends knew him—was a lieutenant in Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and a coach at CrossFit Vancouver in British Columbia.

On Dec. 23, 2009, Nuttall was killed by an IED in the Panjwayi District of Afghanistan. He is memorialized in the CrossFit.com Hero workout Nutts:

For time:

10 handstand push-ups

250-lb. deadlift, 15 reps

25 box jumps, 30-inch box

50 pull-ups

100 wall-ball shots, 20 lb., 10 feet

200 double-unders

Run 400 meters with a 45-lb. plate

For the past three years, CrossFit Vancouver has hosted the Nutts Cup, which sold out in six hours in 2012. The event is a celebration of Nutts’ life, and this year co-ed teams of three competed for a prize of $3,000. The tribute also featured a Lucas Parker Shavedown, in which people donated money to charity for the right to shave a patch of the hirsute Games athlete’s fur.

Today marks the third anniversary of Nutts’ death.
