Australian Drummond Williamson is a Level 1 Seminar Staff member who came across CrossFit after his time in the military, and he initially questioned everything about the program. But after he started digging, he found the answers he needed, as well as a new way to look at fitness.
“I finally was encouraged to just dabble in it and try it for two weeks, and I never turned back,” he said.
Williamson is a bit of a Tasmanian devil, and if he’s around, prepare to laugh. To ensure glute activation to open the hips, the Aussie says he’s a fan of a particular coaching cue.
“I’ve always enjoyed ‘Squeeze your bum like you’re in the prison shells.’ I’ve always quite enjoyed that one,” Williamson says.
In seriousness, he says coaching is about making connections with members.
“I think it’s important to develop relationships with your clients and to be in their lives and know what they’re up to,” says Williamson, who ownsCrossFit 42 South in Tasmania. “It teaches you … to be more human.”
