McQuaid proved fitness is better with a friend, tackling Event 3 outside alongside CrossFit German Throwdown competitor Sam Briggs. McQuaid kept pace with Briggs finishing just 24 seconds behind Briggs with a time of 16:59.

But Briggs wasn’t who she needed to beat, and her time earned her an Event 3 win by more than 90 seconds.

It was a close race between Holte and Briggs in the first two rounds, but Holte pulled away as she moved into her last set of muscle-ups around the 13-minute mark.

Briggs got to her final set of muscle-ups 50 seconds behind Holte, but Holte’s sprint to her dumbbells for her last set of lunges and unbroken final 100 double-unders made her the victor at 15:04.

Virtual matchup: Richelme, Malheiros, Cerveny, Martinez, Bidarte, and Verdun.

Richelme seemed to get faster as Event 3 progressed, crushing his first set of 30 ring muscle-ups in 1:58 for an early lead that he did not relinquish.

He went unbroken on the last set of muscle-ups, completing all 10 in just 32 seconds. One hundred double-unders later and he had his first event win of the competition.

The top six women going into Event 3: Larissa Cunha, Sasha Nievas, Victoria Campos, Alexia Williams, Luiza Rodriguez, and Julia Kato.

Virtual matchup: Cunha, Nievas, Campos, Williams, Rodriguez, and Amanda Fusuma.

Finishing at 17:39, she left the other women in the dust: Cunha took second more than three minutes later.

The win put Campos in a qualifying spot: second overall after three events.

Individual Event 4

Event 4 had only one movement: Snatches. Heavy ones.

Athletes had 10 minutes to complete 3 rounds of 10 snatches, the load increasing each round.

In the time remaining, athletes faced a max-effort snatch for reps at 165 lb. for the women and 245 lb. for the men.

Bronislaw Olenkowicz set the score to beat going into the virtual matchups, banking 51 reps at 245 lb.

In the matchup, Mundwiler shone with a pocket full of power snatches, waiting to break parallel until the rep-out at 245. It was a good show, but Olenkowicz’s score held for first place. Ioannis Papadopoulos edged Mundwiled out with 50 reps for second, and  Mundwiler’s 48 were good enough for third.

The top six women going into Event 4: McQuaid, Migała, Horváth, Thorisdottir, Thuridur Helgadottir, and Lucy Campbell.

Virtual matchup: McQuaid, Migała, Horváth, Thorisdottir, Helgadottir, and Campbell.

Just 1 rep behind her were Thorisdottir and Migała, each of whom snuck in 1 final rep with just seconds remaining.

Lowlands Throwdown Day 2 Standings

CrossFit German Throwdown

After three events, Koski, Lazar Đukić, Karavis, Kotoulas, Luka Đukić, and Marincenco were the top six male athletes.

Virtual matchup: Koski, Lazar Đukić, Karavis, Luka Đukić, Marincenco, and Beneito.

Lazar Đukić demonstrated some veteran strategy in his race with Koski. Đukić performed touch-and-go reps through 7 of his snatches at 185

By shifting his technique early, performing 7 of his 185 lb. snatches as touch-and-go reps and then switching to 3 full snatch singles to finish the set, Đukić prepared for the heavier loads and kept himself four points ahead of Koski by finishing at the top of the virtual heat. But it was Boris Judin who took the overall event win with 48 reps.

Holte, Dahlstrøm, Briggs, Leppänen, Davidsdottir, and Hollis were at the top of the women’s leaderboard going into Event 4.

Virtual matchup: Holte, Dahlstrøm, Davidsdottir, Hollis, Emma Tall, and Antea Longo.

Event 4 was an epic liftoff between Davidsdottir and Dahlstrøm.

Virtual matchup: Richelme, Martinez, Cerveny, Malheiros, Bidarte, and Primo.

It was a close race between Malheiros, Primo, and Cerveny.

But then Cerveny misloaded his bar in the final round and missed a lift. It was too much ground to make up; meanwhile, Malheiros hit three good lifts in 30 seconds. He narrowly took the event with 48 reps, 1 more than Primo and Cerveny in second and third with 47 reps each.

Cunha, Campos, Nievas, Fusuma, Dias, and Julia Kato were the top six women after three events on Day 2.
