The competition for the world's, and region's, largest team is entering its final five days.
More than 100,000 athletes and nearly 2,400 teams have registered to compete in the 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games Open. Hour by hour, the numbers continue to climb.
Over the last week, we’ve seen many shifts in the competition for the world’s (and region’s) largest team as CrossFitters make a last-minute rush to the registration page.
As of Tuesday, March 5, the same two teams are in the lead, but they’re closely followed by several newcomers. CrossFit NYC is currently the world’s largest team with 266 registered athletes. CrossFit 1525 follows in second with 207 athletes, and Reebok CrossFit YUL is in third with 191 athletes.
One thing is clear, nothing is set in stone. Over the last week, Equipe CrossFit Laval dropped from third to ninth due to the sudden explosion of teams with over 150 members. Last year, CrossFit Enhance came out of nowhere to seal the title “World’s Largest Team” with 520 athletes. CrossFit NYC followed in second with 504 athletes, and Diablo CrossFit Blanco came in third with 221 athletes.
The competition for the world’s (and region’s) largest team is entering its final five days. The world's largest team as of 5 p.m., PT on March 10 will win 100 tickets to the Games, and its affiliate fee will be waived for life. The largest team in each region will win as many tickets to the Regional as they have registered athletes (capped at 150).
