After many years coaching, training and experimenting in various fitness disciplines, I discovered CrossFit in 2012. After my first workout, I was hooked (cliché, but simply a fact!) even though I couldn't raise my arms for 5 days afterwards!
I passed my Level 1 in 2013 and am now the proud owner and head coach at CrossFit Hammerschmiede in Bavaria, Germany.
Although our speciality (as CrossFitters) is not specialising, my main focus is on mobility, and the perfect execution of fundamental, and "pure" movements. I believe these are decisive factors in staying injury-free, and longevity in fitness.
Although a Snatch and a Muscle-Up are impressive and great goals to aim for, having perfect form for a push-up, airsquat, pull-up etc will benefit new athletes much more if they are trained consistently, adding intensity only when the movement is solid.
The "new" protocols of gymnastic movements in CrossFit is an exciting addition to an already established training methodology.
Most people who train at "Globo" gyms would never even consider to donate the time and effort to learn how to L-Sit or Planche Hold. Simply being able to consistently and correctly perform moves such as these, is a clear indication of incredible discipline, strength and control.
For example, coaching an over 50 years-old athlete to their very first Handstand against a wall, (next stop, HSPU!) is incredibly rewarding and should never be under-estimated.
.
The only downside for me personally, is not being able to train as regularly, intensively and strictly as I'd like, as there is always so much to do, especially as we are still in our first 6 months of business (as of Oct 2019)
That said, however life-changing and vital CrossFit clearly is, it will always take 2nd place behind my amazing wife, who runs the box with me, and my 2 incredible sons.
They are the reason I strive for perfection every day.
We are super excited to see where this journey takes us, and feel honoured every day, to be a small part of making positive, measurable, and radical changes in people's lives
