I'm not good at writing about myself. I'm pretty good at writing my experiences, though. And maybe that's why I'm here; the experiences I have had in the last year, doing CrossFit consistently, meeting other CrossFitters around the US and a few around the globe, has been an incredible experience. The very first WOD I did, I had about two rounds left. Everyone else was done, or as they finished, they encircled me, cheering me on, calling my name and pushing me to keep fighting and keep going, that I can do it. When I finished, I was surrounded and high-fived and hugged as I burst into tears. That's why I decided I needed to keep doing CrossFit. When I finally settled on the decision of which gym would be my home gym, I didn't just commit for a few months... I committed for a whole year. I started in the "Start Strong" classes, which I was told I didn't need to do, but I wanted to hit my reset button and enjoy re-learning everything. By the time the Open is over, it'll have been about one year being committed to doing CrossFit. It has been a blast and a struggle. In every journey you take, you face ups and downs, and I have certainly had my share. But, I won't stop. I have to simply figure out how to overcome obstacles or listen to my body and take it down a notch. I also have had to learn to try to make my experiences positive when they have been difficult. I learn lessons every day and it's the people in this community who have shared their empathy, their story and their own journeys experiences and allow us all to take perspective, grow and support one another. Every day, I allow myself to accept new challenges, try to push myself out of my own comfort zone and take accountability in my own health and strength goals. I don't expect to "get it" right off the bat, though I wish I was able. It takes me a while to sort everything out. I mean... I literally just strung together double-unders this week. My next goal is to get some strict pull-ups (as long as the Open workouts don't destroy my shoulders to get in the extra bar time - hahaha). In closing, all I can say is that I have enjoyed every moment of my CrossFit journey. All the ups and downs, included. They've helped me overcome hurdles and think how to do things differently or more conceptually. I have to thank my gym's owners, all the coaches, everyone I work out with and everyone at our sister gym... You've all been unlimited sources of inspiration, motivation and support.
