I have been an athlete my entire life. As soon as I could walk, I could compete. My dad wanted nothing more than his 6’1 daughter to play every sport imaginable. Every summer, I was attending AAU basketball and college basketball training camps. In the fall, I played varsity volleyball. In the winter, you could find me playing varsity basketball and the spring was track. Calling me competitive was an understatement – I lived to compete. It wasn’t until college that I began focusing solely on running. I still enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball but the feeling of running outside was freeing. I needed something different from what I had been doing my entire life. Something that I could do on my own that would continue to push myself to new and higher limits. Running was my break. Running was “me time.” But as much as I loved running, my competitive nature took over soon enough and I began craving competition. In 2013, I made a New Year’s Resolution. Similar to everyone else in the world, I wanted to try CrossFit. I googled “CrossFit in Las Vegas”, clicked the first website, attended class the next day and fell in love. Only after two months of training had I signed up for my first CrossFit competition. I never looked back. I have currently competed in six competitions in the Las Vegas area and have placed in the Top 3 each time. In 2015, Drew invited me to start training with our gym’s competition team and I was hooked. I learned about accessory training, nutrition and gymnastics. Things I never took the time to learn before. I became stronger, faster and leaner. I was accomplishing my fitness goals and truly felt like I was where I belonged. In 2016, I was approached after a WOD and asked if I ever thought about becoming a CrossFit trainer. To be honest, it had never crossed my mind. But as soon as it was mentioned, it was all I wanted to do. Becoming a coach was simply the next step in this adventure. It was how I could share my love for this sport with others. It was how I could help others on their fitness journey. It just clicked. I began raising money for the course fee, passed the test and was on my way to becoming the best couch I could be. Whether it’s training, competing or coaching, I always go all out. I often get teased about my catch phrases, “GET IT”, “LIGHT WEIGHT” and “YEEEAAH!” but that is just who I am. I get just as pumped seeing others achieve their goals as I do my own. The sentiment runs true for me: Our Project Is You!
