No performance history
Jake has an Associate’s Degree in Communications—Music Business Management from the University of North Carolina and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences with a Minor in Biochemistry from the University of Nebraska which included a research fellowship at Cornell University. He is a certified Med Tech/Med Lab Tech; and is currently in his 12th year of bio-pharma analytical research as the Principle Analyst at an internationally-renowned Pharmaceutical CRO. Jake has also raced for the past 12 years as a Pro-Sponsored XTERRA endurance athlete and 10 years as a member on the New Balance PRO Team. He has been CrossFitting since February 2011. He received his introduction to CrossFit by Tim Ferriss—a good friend of Jake’s who is also a NY Times best-selling author. Tim introduced Jake to Brian MacKenzie of CrossFit Endurance, and although being skeptical of the CFE programming; his knowledge of Brian MacKenzie’s synonymous name in regards to running and other endurance sports allowed Jake to give BMack the benefit of the doubt. He then adopted Brian’s training methods for his triathlon pre-season strength and conditioning program in 2011. Giving CFE six weeks to prove itself, Jake immediately started seeing PRs within the first couple weeks; these included his greatest 5K & 10K times of his life—15:57 and 33:12 respectfully. Jake took literally 10 minutes off of his 10K time. Not only did his running times improve, so did his swimming and cycling. His strength skyrocketed; his cardio vigor and stamina increased (which he thought impossible given the methods). Jake then became addicted not only to the methodology but also the science behind the methods of CrossFit. He says, “As a Biologist & Biochemist, putting the science behind the training methods makes sense—showing how and why the intensity plays such a crucial role in the results—especially when training different metabolic pathways—and the data proves the method!” Jake Fisher has been using the CrossFit Endurance methodology solely for his triathlon training since February 2011, and continues to do so entering 2013 where he plans to retire from triathlon and enter the XTERRA Trail Run Series. He has no desire to return to using LSD (long slow distance) methods. Jake has definitely become more competitive and a stronger triathlete than ever, and his recovery is exponentially greater. At his first race in 2011, Jake placed 4th at an XTERRA 8K trail run and 20-mins after finishing, he went to the start-line of a triathlon (XTERRA also) and finished 2nd. Jake accredits both Brian MacKenzie and Doug Katona of CFE for his success, “Both of the head coaches at CFE have turned me into a borderline freak; and not only that, but their commitment to my excellence has ignited a blaze of passion for coaching within.” Since starting CrossFit 7 years ago, Jake has become certified as a CrossFit L1 Coach, a CrossFit Endurance Coach, a POSE Running Specialist, Olympic Lifting Coach (USAW1), a C2-certified Trainer and also holds previous certifications as a Total Immersion Swimming Specialist and Maha Yoga School Hatha Yoga Teacher. Jake’s spirit, athleticism and boundless knowledge in fitness and nutrition science has taken his friends and fellow athletes to levels that most fitness professionals rarely see. More importantly, he has introduced hundreds of friends to CrossFit and continues to focus his energy in the betterment of his community. "I strive to coach my athletes to an excellence that far exceeds my own."
