Brian “Fitz” Fitzpatrick started doing crossfit in February 2013, but his journey started a few months before that…
In October 2012 he stared at the scale when it told him he was up to 262 pounds. His 38″ waist was bursting. He was tired. He was overweight. And he needed to change. If not for himself, then for his wife Evelyn and two girls Mickey and AJ.
He began to watch what he ate and slowly started to lose weight.
In January 2013 he started the paleo diet and that really helped continue the weight loss journey. That was at the suggestion of Charlotte during a trip to Hawaii. She is a good friend of the family who had been a crossfit and paleo fan for quite a while.
In February 2013 he started crossfit at Crossfit Continuum in Colorado Springs, CO, with his wife. She’d been doing crossfit for a few months by that point. And though he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to do it or not, he got the process started. He was 248 pounds at that point and still sporting a 38″ waist.
It was a long road, but eventually it paid off. Over the next 10 months he managed to get down to 200 lbs and a 34″ waist. That journey included the Lurong Living Paleo Challenge, which was the first time he had competed in any sort of athletic way since he was in junior high school basketball in the early 1980s.
Now, the journey has had some bumps over time. He’s regained some weight here and there, but continues to do crossfit workouts 3 or 4 times a week. He’s added a once a week yoga class to the mix. And he’s even run a 5k or two, much to his own chagrin.
This is a never-ending road and every day brings new challenges. And every year, the Open brings its own brand of madness to his life!
