I am a body-positive, nerdy fat kid turned nerdy, fit kid. I grew up in Grass Valley, CA, and moved to Santa Cruz to attend UCSC in 2005 and could never find a reason to leave. I was seduced by the liberal arts and majored in Literature, Egyptian Hieroglyphics Intensive. After getting my artsy fartsy degree in 2010, I got a "Summer job" at a local gym that turned into my career. I became a NASM-CPT in 2012 and I got exposed to a lot of different types of fitness modalities early on, but I really took a liking to cross-training workouts. I got my RKC Level and I soon started teaching a kettlebell cross-training program... and I'm STILL teaching it. My boyfriend at the time did CrossFit and told me to go with him one day in 2013 to take my fitness to the next level, and I GOT HOOKED. I loved it. It was such a fit, positive, inclusive atmosphere and I have never found anything to date that works my body out as effectively. There were no gimmicks, fluff exercises or vain mirrors, it was just simple, hard workouts designed in creative ways. I became great friends with the owner and head coach of CrossFit Scotts Valley (Narine) - she took me under her wing, believed in me when I didn't believe in myself, and sassed me into PR's I never thought I was capable of. More than that, we would discuss programming strategies for difficult clients - I owe so much of who I am as a trainer/coach to her. After about 6 years of going to her box, she had to shut down, so for two years I tried to keep up my fitness on my own. It failed. I lost so much strength, technique, and stamina. About 2 years ago, I signed up at Santa Cruz West (now WestFit), and I am addicted again. My engine has come back and I love the community. Daniel's programming has given me back the fitness and strength I lost and my engine is phenomenal. Also, Daniel's positive attitude, his amazing coaches, and the inclusive atmosphere that he fosters have gotten me through some really hard times recently. WestFit is my therapy and I am so thankful to have it in my life.
