Since Annie Thorisdottir announced her plans to go team this year, all eyes have been on team Reykjavík. The team started its debut season strong, winning four of the five workouts in Europe. Sitting in 12th overall on the worldwide leaderboard and fourth in Europe, the team secured two worldwide wins on top of its four continental wins.

Reykjavík is breathing down the neck of Affiliate Cup favorite CrossFit Mayhem Freedom. It's a storyline we all have hoped to see heading into the 2022 season: Will the Icelanders have the opportunity to push the team from Cookeville off the top of the podium this year? Thorisdottir, Khan Porter, Lauren Fisher, and Tola Morakinyo still have a lot of work to do to keep up, but as the four Games veterans get a feel for each other, they will continue to threaten the order on the leaderboard heading into Semifinals.

With no surprise, two of the three CrossFit Mayhem teams occupy the first three positions on the worldwide leaderboard at the close of Day 3: Mayhem Freedom in first and Mayhem Independence in third. The five-time Affiliate Cup Champion team, Mayhem Freedom, dominated three of the five workouts on the worldwide leaderboard.

A new team currently sits in fourth on the worldwide leaderboard with eyes set on a possible podium finish moving forward in the season. Team CrossFit Selwyn is led by the young Fowler brothers, Ben, 21, and Luke, 22. The brothers only have individual division experience, finishing both their 2021 seasons at the Torian Pro Semifinal. The duo recruited Marnie Sykes and Madeline Shelling, who were part of the sixth-fittest team at the 2021 Games, Plus64 CrossFit.

  2. AB CrossFit — 11:41
  3. CrossFit Invictus — 12:07

Team Mayhem Freedom members knows they’re good, but they also know there is potential to be better. Adding three-time Games athlete Sam Cournoyer to the team this year, welcoming back two of the best women in Games team history, Andrea Nisler and Taylor Williamson, and having the ultimate leader, Rich Froning, Team Mayhem Freedom will, once again, be extremely hard to beat this year. The team out of Cookeville, Tennessee, added its fourth continental win of the weekend during Workout 5, finishing at the lucky time of 11:11.

Sitting in fourth on the North America leaderboard is CrossFit PSC out of Ontario, Canada, a team that was one of the biggest surprises of the weekend. Some of the team’s members have past Regional and Semifinal experience in the individual division and one is a former Games teenager. Together, the team is well on its way to a potential Games ticket.

Pro1 Montreal is a well-known name in the Affiliate Cup competition with five Games appearances, but the team seemed to struggle a bit in Day 3. The team’s score of 15:54 for Workout 5, good for 36th in North America, raises questions about a strength weakness within the team this year. The Canadian team is sitting comfortably for a Semifinal invitation but will need to push hard for another trip to Madison.

  1. CrossFit Reykjavík — 12:09
  2. CrossFit Zarautz Training Culture — 13:06
  3. CrossFit Oslo Navy Blue — 13:30

Current leader CrossFit Oslo Navy Blue out of Norway is on the right track for another Games podium position. Three of the four members from the 2021 Second-Fittest Team on Earth are returning, with the addition of Norway’s 2019 National Champ, Nicolay Billaudel. The team finished out Day 3 with a third-place finish in Workout 5 with a time of 13:30.

Sitting in second place overall on the leaderboard is Team CrossFit Zarautz Training Culture. Following a first-place finish in the 2021 Team Quarterfinal, the team had to pull out of Semifinals due to a member’s contracting COVID, leaving the team even more determined to qualify for the Games this year. Zarautz slipped up only once with a 13th-place finish in Workout 3, never dropping below third in all four of the other workouts.

CrossFit Portti from Finland is stacked with the same four members that finished 12th at the 2021 CrossFit Games, ninth at the 2019 French Throwdown, fourth at the 2019 Dubai CrossFit Championship, and third at the 2022 Norwegian CrossFit Championship. Its members have a lot of experience and clearly work well together. The team currently sits in eighth overall, tied with CrossFit Mayflower.

CrossFit EXF out of Queensland soared to the top of the leaderboard and had a great finish to the weekend with a second-place score in Workout 5.

A team of two married couples created a team to remember during the 2021 season and finished in seventh at the Games, including an event win, and CrossFit Urban Energy is back for more. The team made steady jumps up the leaderboard throughout Days 2 and 3 and currently sits in third overall after a third-place finish in Workout 5.

Kingbull CrossFit Paraguay bumped Team BXP from the second-place position at the close of Day 3 with a continental win in Workout 5.

Team BXP may have lost its second-place spot but still secured third overall at the close of competition. The team finished fourth in Workout 5 with a time of 17:37.

  3. CrossFit Yas Black — 16:42

Overall leader CrossFit Kolesnikov Team finished Quarterfinals strong with three continental wins in Workouts 3, 4, and 5. This is a recurring theme for this team: it had three continental wins in last year’s Team Quarterfinal as well. Kolesnikov finished Workout 5 more than two minutes faster than the second-best time on the Asia leaderboard.

Second-place finisher CrossFit Yas Black from the United Arab Emirates continued to fight for first, swapping the lead with Kolesnikov several times throughout the weekend. The team took first in Asia during the 2022 Open and will continue to nip at the heels of Kolesnikov during Semifinals.

  3. BST CrossFit — 19:46

A clean sweep of the Africa leaderboard closed out the Team Quarterfinal for Team CrossFit Commit Okavango out of South Africa. Taking first in all five workouts is something that even 2021 Quarterfinal winners Eikestad Mighty Oaks did not quite achieve. CrossFit Commit Okavango is the only team to sweep all Quarterfinal workouts two years in a row.

Team CrossFit Tijger Valley Unit and BST were right on its tail, swapping the second and third-place positions several times throughout the competition. However, Tijger Valley pulled through and secured second place after finishing Workout 5 in second. BST settled comfortably in third, finishing Workout 5 in third.

CrossFit Commit Okavango, CrossFit Tijger Valley Unit, and BST CrossFit were the only teams on the Africa leaderboard to finish Workout 5 under the 20-min. time cap.
