There are some clarifications to the Games rules for this season. If you plan on competing individually or for a team, please take a moment to review the rules. Further details about the 2012 season are available in the Rule Book here.

All Open Weights in Pounds
For the purpose of the 2012 CrossFit Games season, 15 kg weightlifting bars will be considered to be 35 pounds, and 20 kg bars will be considered to be 45 pounds. We will announce the weights for all five Open workouts in pounds only. It is the athlete's responsibility to use at least as many pounds as prescribed. If an athlete is using kilogram plates, kettlebells, dumbbells or another weightlifting implement, then they will need to use at least the prescribed weight in pounds.

Team Competition Changes
Teams will consist of at least three men and three women who validly register and who train at the same physical location for at least half of their personal workouts between January 1, 2012 and the commencement of the Open on February 22, 2012. Athletes may only compete for one team during each CrossFit Games season.

Athletes must join their team on the Games site prior to the close of the first Open workout (February 26, 2012) in order to compete for that team during the Regionals or Games.

Team members must be registered as individuals and select the same affiliate (or “unaffiliated” if they do not train at a valid CrossFit affiliate gym in good standing) to join a team.

Prizes During the Open
The largest team worldwide will be rewarded handsomely. On Sunday, February 26, at 5 p.m. PT, the team with the most registered athletes will win tickets to the Games--as many tickets as registered team members--and have their affiliate fee waived for life.

The team prizes don't end there. The team with the most validly registered athletes in their region on Sunday, February 26 at 5 p.m. PT will win tickets to their Regional competition.

Each week, one athlete will be selected who represents the CrossFit community for the Spirit of the Open competition. Nominations for athletes with extraordinary stories, locations, or obstacles to competing in the Open, may be sent to support@crossfitgames.com with "Spirit of the Games" as the subject line. The athlete may compete in any division of the competition. The week's Spirit of the Open award winner will receive $2,012!
