Mira Singh is the only Canadian woman over 50 to qualify for the 2012 Masters Competition at the Games. Now, she's trying to get there.

Mira Singh is arguably Canada's fittest woman over 50. She finished the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games Open in the top 10, which led to her competing at the CrossFit Games Masters competition where she finished seventh.

In 2012, the 51-year-old says she set out to prove she can still hang with the best in the world and she did so by placing 17th in the Open, among almost 360 other women in her age category.

You can hear the pride in her voice when reveals she’s the only Canadian woman in her category going to the Games. However, she still has to get to Carson.

Travel, hotels and meals – it adds up. Not everyone has the funds to travel in order to compete, but Singh reminds us of the old saying, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

"Luckily we have some great community support, amazing clients at Natural Strength CrossFit [and] family and friends who are helping Sean and I get there,” she says.

This group of people, as well as a few local businesses, has stepped up to help Singh get to Carson, Calif. Crock of Shirt clothing company is selling T-shirts with all profits going to help fund Singh’s trip to the states.

There was a fundraising dinner at a local pub, which will include several donated silent auction items and a 50/50 draw. On top of local businesses helping out, there have also been other donations made for the “Get Mira to the Games” campaign.

Singh says this effort with help motivate her performance at the Games. She wants to prove again that she is a fierce competitor. "I am a fighter, I am stronger than I think I am and I can push harder when I need to,” she says.

With the goal for 2011 being to simply place in the top eight, which meant participating on Sunday, her ultimate goal is to stand up tall as a Canadian athlete on the podium.

While Singh has already shown she can do amazing things when under pressure, you can bet she’ll continue to show it again in California.
