i began my journey with crossfit the summer of 2014. i immediately liked it because it was tough, new and the community at the box we went to was completely welcoming. honestly if the community wouldnt have been friendly i probably wouldnt have gone back because it was pretty intimidating. i played softball through my junior year of college but that meant nothing in this world. since the summer of 2014 i was slowly progressing & in november of 2014 i was suddenly faced with a hemorrhage in my head due to a large mass. i had no idea i had this my entire life. well 7 days later after a successful craniotomy removing my benign AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) mass & almost 4 months later of recovery i began to crossfit again. a full year of crossfitting and a year of life going back to where i left it seemed like nothing could stop me. the first week of january 2016 i had my first black out seizure due to the mass that was removed and caused scar tissue that will always put me at risk of seizures. ive had another seizure since then but after more recovery, medication trials to control my seizures and not being able to drive for 6 months in one year, again the community at atomic crossfit in stafford, texas is always there to lift me up and keep me motivated to focus on my health and by pushing me to my limits yet scaling me with my forever battle of epilepsy. its a place i feel safe at because theyve been from the beginning and they remain there when times are tough. i was able to do the open last year scaled beyond then what i know im capable of and i struggled even more because of being so overweight due to depression. this year ive picked myself up and have officially signed up for my first open. i cant wait to see where i start and see the progression for next year and the year of that... man i love this sport.
