My son introduced my wife, Polly and I to crossfit about 3 years ago. He found a great gym here in OC, Ruination Crossfit, and although we never did any weightlifting or gymnastics, we both really enjoyed the people, the coaches, the workouts and comradery of the gym (I guess I should say Box). We both did other athletics before, triathlons and 10 k's before having kids, but after kids we mostly coached their sports. My sports were tennis and basketball, I was never attracted to going to the gym to work out, preferring playing sports. I think it is the game aspect of the workouts that attracts us to crossfit and keeps us interested. At first we were a little scared to go to the workouts, fearing failure of attempting new things like rope climbs or overhead squats etc. But we persevered and Polly was lucky enough to make the games 2 years ago in the 60 and over which was great to participate in. I am recouping from a shoulder injury, I had surgery on it 3 months before last years games and made the mistake of competing, reinjuring it on the 16.5 thruster workout. So this year has been one of scaling anything that is overhead and I told myself I would not enter the games.... But, it is hard not to participate in the games with the rest of the gym, so I did enter and will do my best, hopefully short of re injuring myself.
