Country Music and Lifting Weights are two things I just didn’t get. At least not up ‘till March, 2022. Throughout my life I have done a number of different sports …among them skiing, swimming, rugby, wrestling, hockey, running, squash, triathlon, waterskiing, sailing, BMXing, canoeing. But in all the sports I played, I never saw the point of weightlifting. It was one of those activities that just didn't seem to be a real sport. I also enjoyed and played a lot of different kinds of music. I learned a bit of piano, sang in choirs; in high school played trombone in bands and listened to all kinds of different music…Reggae, jazz, classical, bluegrass, pop, disco, funk, big band stuff. Somehow my kids and my wife got into country music… but never did I really see the point of country music…. So every time I got in the car I changed the radio station back to the one that plays real music. I realize that Olympic weightlifting is my country music. Never really saw the point. Didn't really consider it to be real music … a real sport. Then I went through my training classes at FYP…and realizing that weight lifting is a real sport. It’s technical. It’s hard. And it helps all the other sports and movements. I’m still learning … I finally feel like I have my deadlift right, I’m getting close on my strict press, and the coaches are saying my power snatch and push press are coming along …. I’m not saying that Country music does the same thing … but I don’t switch the radio station over as often.
