US Navy Vet. Served on USS Enterprise from 2009-2013. Merchant Marines 2015-2017 Started CrossFit in 2013 to help with depression over transitioning out of the service. I felt like I lost a part of myself. I wasn’t ready to leave and did t know how to address those feelings. I stopped CrossFit in 2017 and just focus on work. Feeling lost and needing help I knew I had to get find myself again. So in 2020 I started the healing process, joined a group, and embraced the process. I started this journey by looking deep within and giving myself the time and space to heal. Every day since then something I do or someone brings to my attention something I have to address or become conscious of. Instead of being mad or becoming upset, I bring in love and I am thankful for the awareness so I can put in the work to address it. I love CrossFit because of the community. You walk into a box and you feel welcomed and loved. Leaving your body, knowing when to modify, enjoying the process, leaving your ego, and pushing yourself are the biggest things I love about going into a workout. Preparing your body, your recovery, and adjusting your diet is key. Enjoying the celebration of a PR, Knowing all the hard work I put in. We can do hard things - Coach Brian. I hear those words during a workout, I close my eyes and keep pushing. Be comfortable being uncomfortable, pushing yourself through a new wall, and getting breakthroughs. Being vulnerable is the key to creativity, innovation, and change. As you go through the healing process those two attributes will allow you to have the insight for you to adjust, shift, and implement changes or new plans that make sense.
