In high school I was a 4 sport athlete. I some how managed to be a "walk on" basketball player for 2 years at the University California at Irvine which was a school that was trying to hang with the D1 teams......I still loved every second of it despite seeing little to no playing time. I loved being a part of a team! My fitness journey after college was intermittent workouts with no specific goal in mind - mainly just staying active. After my first pregnancy in 1998, I recovered pretty good physically - GOTTA LOVE GIVING BIRTH BEFORE 30! Then, two pregnancies later (Dec 2003 & Jan 2005), the weight didn't come off so easy so I started running - mainly 5k's and half marathons and the weight started to drop off......then in July 2008 baby number 4 came along. Time for fitness was not on my list of things to do. It didn't take long before I realized I was middle aged, overweight, and out of shape. I figured I held on to about 30 extra pounds after my (4) pregnancies and I would tell myself it could have been worse - justifying my lack of exercise. Ten years later, in June of 2018, we move to Nebraska and I was able to work less and really focus on my health. In August of 2018 I found Crossfit Elkhorn via a Google search! The first year was tough to say the least. I knew I needed the accountability and structure of a coach and classes. I also knew I needed a challenge and workouts that would not test my ADD so Crossfit was the perfect place for me. For 6 months I was able to focus on my fitness and it felt like a fulltime job between learning proper technique, WODS, fatigue, and major meltdowns. After a year and millions of tears I told myself "I'm too old for this and maybe I just need to do pilates or yoga (which by the way are just as hard!) For the first time in my life I realized that my mental toughness was failing me not my age or my body. During the middle of a WOD I fell to the floor. Between tears running down my face and seeing our coach Trevor Baxter walking towards me in the corner of my eye during that workout, I knew I had to get up .....and have been going ever since. I am proud of myself and I am grateful for the community and the coaches who have built this body of mine - I could not have done it without all of them. Huge shout out to the athletes in the 4:30pm, 5:30pm, and 6:30pm classes who push me everyday and make me laugh and push me to be my very best and......watch our pets when we are gone on trips!
