JULIE HOLT BIO Julie Holt is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas with dual degrees. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Health Education and in Physical Education. She was a 4-year Varsity Basketball Letterwinner with a record of 103-38. They won many AIAW Texas State Championships, and ranked in the top 5 nationally. She continued her education at University of the Pacific where she graduated with a Masters of Arts in Psychology of Sports. Julie began her 25-year college coaching career in 1979 at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA as an assistant women’s basketball coach. She was hired in 1981 as the Head Basketball and Cross Country Coach at University of Nevada in Reno. She conducted a nation-wide study and statewide study in regards to gender equity and Title IX. She implemented legislative changes for women in Nevada, due to her work with Title IX. She then returned to UOP as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach two years later. After five years as head coach, Julie was recruited by UNLV coaching staff. UNLV went to the NCAA Sweet 16 that season. She became the Head Coach at Gonzaga and became the winningest coach in Gonzaga’s history at the time. Her team won a West Coast Conference Championship and she was named WCC Coach of the Year. In 1994, she then went on to be the Head Coach at University of Idaho, where her husband was coaching football. While at Idaho, Julie was also appointed as the Chair for the on-campus NCAA Title IX assessment. The next stop was Louisville, Kentucky where Julie joined the basketball staff as Director of Basketball Operations. Her family then moved to Los Angeles and Julie was hired as a full-time faculty member and women’s basketball Head Coach at Harbor College in Wilmington, CA. In the two short years at Harbor College, Julie implemented new physical education classes; including integrating the campus’ special needs program into several basketball classes. It helped to inspire and create community for all students on campus. She was also named South Coast Conference Coach of the Year. She also served as the Title IX Chair for the on campus study, which was reported to the Harbor College President, Board of Regents and the State of California. Again, successful changes were employed to improve gender equity. When moving back to Idaho, Julie became a stay at home mom. Staying involved in the Moscow community, she helped start a youth football program. Julie coached several community youth basketball teams each year. She was the Co-Chair of the St Mary’s School Auction and also Honorary Chair of the Governor’s Gala held in Boise, Idaho. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Mary’s Catholic Church. When moving back to Los Angeles, still a stay at home mom, Julie continued to be involved in community service. She was a volunteer coach for several teams at a variety of grade levels each year in California, and assisted at the local schools. Julie helped supervise the eighth grade class production of the very moving play, “The Passion”, for a four-month period. She was also a Eucharistic Minister for American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach, CA. The family then moved to Seattle, WA. Julie became very involved in the Seattle community. She volunteered to coach CYO basketball teams. She became the co-chair of Matt Talbot Center Auction. Julie received the “Outstanding Community Service Award” given at the Champions Breakfast. The Fulcrum Foundation also honored Julie and her husband Nick. They received the prestigious “2011 Champions Award”. All of this while continuing to further help her community through other various organizations. Julie had a short stint in Butte, Montana for one year. She became the chair of the booster club for Butte Central. This is also where her love affair with CrossFit began. Joining Copper City CrossFit and training with Anthony Fields, the owner, got her hooked! Four years were spent in Bowling Green, Ky with husband Nick coaching at WKU. Julie was co-chair of the Monty Beard Golf Classic, which supported the Bowling Green High School Football Program. At the time, her youngest son Ben was a member of the Purples team. She had the opportunity to watch both her sons play football at WKU for their father. That was a once in a lifetime opportunity that she will always treasure. Bowling Green is where Julie found CrossFit Old School, owned by Erin Richter and Donna Webster. The family atmosphere and the Sport Team Program that Erin coached is what propelled Julie to the next level. She qualified for The World Games in 2014 and finished 13th in the world! Julie is now on to a new adventure to Italy with her football coaching husband, Nick Holt. They have been married for 32 years and have had a life full of unbelievable experiences! Julie has been training the past five years at CrossFit Uncommon in Lafayette, where the owners Pete and Crystal Deiwert have fostered an environment true to the spirit of CrossFit. I made it to the games in 2019 only due to Pete's assessment and training program!! Uncommon has been an unbelievable experience. The people are the best. The gym is just great in all aspects! Pete is still my coach and doing my programming since my husband I are traveling all over the world. From Lafayette to Italy to Lubbock to Italy (Crossfit Three Fingers) and now headed back home in time for the Games. See you on the leaderboard!
