The below is a bit old now by now… was good to read this and remind myself that although this past year, 2023, was my least progressive year yet that it was STILL PROGRESS, STILL FITNESS… About 3 years ago when I weighed close to 210#, now 147ish, I got some regular blood work done and was told I had a “fatty liver” and at the time there was nothing to do about it other than try and lose some weight and I should be good... well I didn’t and hadn’t gotten any blood work since then until the week the 6 week challenge at Bucktown CrossFit started. Turns out that my liver enzymes were elevated even more and that I had to see a liver specialist and get more blood work to see if I had a more severe form of this “non-alcohol fatty liver” that was basically pre-cirrhosis. They were talking about possible biopsy’s that I would need the whole 9 yards... after all if the next step is cirrhosis then nothing good comes from that! So it was an intense month before I got into see the liver specialist. For time reference that was now the start of week 5 of the challenge and I had lost about 15lbs and roughly 3-4%bf at that point I think and abdominal fat does play a big roll in this “fatty liver” go figure lol... so I got the blood work done again and by the end of the week I got the call...... My liver enzymes had gone down to a normal level from a month ago!!! There was no need for any biopsy’s and for all intensive purposes I was in the clear! Now I still have to be carful from here on out because this kinda runs in the family but yea, I’m good! I credit all of this to the wonderful coaches I have had at Bucktown CrossFit and how they have helped me form a healthy diet and of course couldn’t have done it with out participating in constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity across broad time and modal domains lol CrossFit has changed my life!!!
