Name: Jeffrey Matthew Cohen DOB: May 16, 1973 Occupation: Cruise Line Port Operations Manager CrossFitting Since: August, 2016 First Memorable CrossFit Experience: Finishing my first Murph in 2017. I was on my last mile, and everyone who had already finished were outside on the sidewalk cheering me on! There were a lot of high fives and fist pumps – and random sidewalk pedestrians joined in! – I was seriously on Cloud Nine. Favorite WOD: My favorites are any that are calisthenics-based involving body weight exercises – pull-ups, sit-ups, burpees, box jumps, running, push-ups, planks, etc. (Think Cindy, Barbara, Angie…). Favorite Lift: Deadlifts, by far. I can do them for days. Plus, they work both upper and lower body muscles. I’m at a 300# PR for DLs and getting stronger! Least Favorite WOD: Anything with ‘Overhead Squats’ in the description. My shoulder mobility is challenging, but I’m working on it. (But I’m constantly changing my attitude, and trying to learn to love ‘em). Favorite CrossFit Moment: I’ve had many, but probably winning the “Most Welcoming” award at CFBT last year. My friends and colleagues always think I’m actively running for mayor… Why You Do CrossFit: The coaches, the sense of community and camaraderie, the competitive atmosphere – these are things that you cannot put a price tag on nor quantify. Prior to CrossFit, my workouts consisted of sporadic running and even more sporadic bench presses. I was getting older, putting on some weight, getting tired more easily, and needed to get serious about something quickly. CrossFit has given me a fitness direction and outlet, and tangible benchmarks to achieve. To be honest, almost two years in, I feel like I’ve had several sips from the proverbial Fountain of Youth. Favorite Cheat Meal: Basically anything off of the Cheesecake Factory menu – definitely not paleo nor macro-friendly, so please don’t judge ;) CrossFit Secret: I have two: 1) Tricking myself into looking forward to the WODs that I don’t love as much as the ones that I do love (they only make me better and stronger!); and 2) Listen to the coaches during the WOD instruction (meaning, not talking and catching up will fellow members) –– you might miss something important (and, quite possibly, get called out *cough* *Lana*). What You Do On Rest Days: SUPing in the summer on Alki, hiking in National Parks, *** What You Can’t Live Without: My husband and family, traveling, my daily 10 shots of espresso, and the Costco-sized Adams peanut butter. (And probably in that exact order). Favorite Vacation Spot: Any large European city – Paris, Prague, Barcelona, Rome – the busier the better. Point me in the direction of the pubs, cafes, and museums, and I’m golden. I’m a little too hyper-caffeinated (re: the 10 shots above) for a so-called relaxing vacation.
