Rookie of the Year

Laura Horvath, Hungary

Hungary's 19-year-old @LauraHorvaht 🇭🇺 missed qualifying for the #CrossFitGames by two spots in 2016. After taking 11th place last year at the Meridian Regional, her second-place finish at the Europe Regional this year finally earned her a qualifying spot at the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games. - The 21-year-old's rookie debut was highly anticipated after she went toe-to-toe with top-ranked veteran athletes like @AnnieThorisdottir at the Europe Regional. The fans in Madison, Wisconsin, were not disappointed. Horvath, coached by @Mich_Letendre, had three event wins and 12 top-10 event finishes. She wore the leader's jersey early on in the competition and edged out @TiaClair1 to win Aeneas, the final event of the weekend. - Horvath is officially the second-fittest woman on Earth and the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games Rookie of the Year. #CrossFitGames 📷 @Daniel.a.snaps

Spirit of the Games Award

Team Código CrossFit, Argentina

@nicole.carroll 🎤: ・・・ For the first time, we offered the global CrossFit community a chance to select the winner of the Spirit of the Games Award, and fans responded with another first: They selected a team as the recipient. . In 2018, Argentina’s Código CrossFit—a team tagged in only two weeks before the Games after another team was disqualified—won the award through a Facebook vote that recognized the truly international nature of the Sport of Fitness. . The team’s spirit was revealed time and again when interacting with staff, judges, and other athletes who described Sol Lupo, Delfina Ortuño, Juan Huidobro and Santiago Scarafia as sincere, kind and supportive of others at all times—even in the face of adversity. . Dealing with adversity is part of the Games, and Código CrossFit demonstrated indomitable will & team spirit when one of its members overcame a paralyzing fear of the water to complete the individual swimming portion of Team Triplus, and avoid disqualification. . With two team members swimming along side, another team member side-stroked next to the terrified athlete for all 500 meters, unable to physically help her, but keeping her calm for the duration. When they were finally able to stand in the water, they shared a triumphant team hug and without hesitation, all four re-entered the water to paddle through the next section of the event. . This episode, and the team’s persistent good nature throughout the competition touched all who witnessed it such that Código was nominated for the Spirit of the Games Award. If you read the @codigocrossfit post about the @samurai.team receiving the award, you’ll likely find yourself touched similarly by the team and its affiliate’s spirit. . We all know CrossFit isn’t easy; it’s challenging, and because of that it brings physical results and results that transcend the physical. These challenges are more easily met in a community of people who push us to go beyond what we imagine we can do on our own. Thank you to Código CrossFit for reminding us of that. . @crossfitgames #crossfit #spiritofthegames #CrossFitGames 📷 @flsportsguy
