The CrossFit community is composed of hundreds of thousands of athletes who come from different backgrounds and occupations, all with one goal: to change their life through CrossFit. And among those hundreds of thousands are a few specific subsets of people who work hard every day to change — and sometimes literally save — others’ lives as well.
Back for a second year, the Occupational Games provide a chance for top athletes in eight different professions — some focused on self-improvement and some on helping others — to earn the title of the fittest in their occupation.
This year, the professions have been expanded to include:
- Active-duty military
- Military veterans
- Law-enforcement officers
- Firefighters
- First responders (e.g., paramedics, emergency medical technicians)
- Medical professionals (e.g., physicians, nurses)
- Educators (e.g., professors, school teachers, tutors, school administrators)
- College students
After the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games Open, the top 10% from each occupation will receive an invitation to compete at the Occupational Games. This multi-day online competition will take place from April 21-24, 2022.
How To Qualify for the Occupational Games
To qualify for the Occupational Games, athletes must identify themselves with one of the above occupations during registration for the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games Open. Athletes can choose more than one occupation. The top 10% of men and top 10% of women from each occupation will receive an invitation to register for the Occupational Games after the conclusion of the Open.
How To Compete in the Occupational Games
The Occupational Games will coincide with the Age-Group Quarterfinal, and if an athlete qualifies for both the Occupational Games and the Age-Group Quarterfinal, they can compete in both.
Once an athlete has registered for the Occupational Games, they will be listed on their own leaderboard titled “Occupational Games” on the CrossFit Games site.
Completing several tests throughout the weekend, the top-performing athletes from each occupation will be crowned the fittest in their occupation at the conclusion of the weekend.
The Occupational Games will bring the hardest working athletes — inside and outside the gym — together to test their fitness. Participants are setting up events around the world to throw down together in the Open on their way to the Occupational Games.
Last year, Sergeant Jacob Pfaff and Captain Rachel Schreiber of the U.S. Army’s Warrior Fitness Team participated in the live announcement of Open Event 21.2.

This year, members of the New York Fire Department (FDNY) and New York Police Department (NYPD) will face off during the first week of the Open. More information to come, and stay tuned for details about the live announcement of Open Event 22.1!
