2020 Service Open

September 26, 2019

CrossFit

This year, compare yourself to fellow service members — police, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and military personnel — from anywhere in the world and in any configuration by adding a custom hashtag…

You sprint into buildings wearing 45 lb. of gear, hack your way through flaming hallways, and haul people to safety.

You perform hand-to-hand combat in heavy armor on enemy ground.

You withstand 9 G-forces at high elevation while staying mentally sharp.

Whether you’re a firefighter, EMT, or military service member, for you, fitness isn’t a game — but that doesn’t mean it can’t be.

And c’mon, are you telling us you wouldn’t love to show your Army brothers and sisters that the Marines aren’t fitter?

Or settle the debate once and for all: Who’s fitter, firefighters or the police?

Here’s your chance to find out.

The 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games Open begins on Oct. 10, and with it comes the chance to see where your fitness stacks up against other service members across the globe in the Service Open.

We’ve done it before — since 2015, service members competing in the Open have been able to compete in special leaderboard categories — but never like this.

This year, not only will you be able to compare yourself to fellow service members on a custom leaderboard of your design, but using the hashtag wizard, you can also compete with your peers — police, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and military personnel — from anywhere in the world and in any configuration by adding a custom hashtag to your profile.

Within the #ServiceOpen, add additional hashtags to your profile to join mini-competitions:

#army

#armyvsnavy

#PolicevsFire

#firefighterwife

#emtvsparamedic

#canadianarmedforces

#britisharmy

#fuerzasarmades

Maybe you’re part of the #chicagopolice and you want to show the #nypd what real fitness looks like. Or maybe you’re an #emt and you want to throw down with your #paramedic buddy. Perhaps your competition is a battle of nations between #ukfirefighter and #australianfirefighter.

You can further customize your ranking by division, location, and workout type, and you can always add a specific athlete to your custom leaderboard.

Want to compare your scores to 2019’s fittest male EMT on Earth after the Open, Canadian athlete Tyler Lee? You can. Lee took first among all EMTs worldwide with a royal flush of first-place finishes in the EMT hashtag category in all five Open workouts. Coach and partner at CrossFit Resurrection in Barrie, Ontario, the athlete by night, paramedic by day also took an impressive 72nd-place finish worldwide.

Or you might compare yourself to Gabby McClelland, the fittest female Airman in the U.S. Air Force from the 2019 Open. She took the title with four wins and one second-place finish among all women competing under the Air Force hashtag.

It’s not just about bragging rights — although those are pretty sweet. It’s about camaraderie.

Regardless of where you’re from or whether you fight fires or enemies of state, no one understands the trials you’ve faced and the sacrifices you’ve made like your fellow service members.

You may not always be able to serve alongside them, but you can push each other, sweat together, and celebrate your fitness as a community in the Open.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Register for the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games Open.
  2. Add hashtags and build custom leaderboards.
  3. Keep training, hone your trash talk, and mark your calendar for the start of the Open!
