2020 Games Spectator Experience

October 22, 2020

CrossFit

Maximize your viewing experience of this year's Games.

Being a spectator at the CrossFit Games is an experience like no other. Aside from enjoying the incredible competition to find the Fittest on Earth, each year the Games are chock-full of spectator activities like on-site workout areas and challenges, opportunities to learn from CrossFit subject-matter experts, cold beer, good food, and so much more.

2020 looks a little different, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have an awesome Games spectator experience. Now that we know how and when to watch the 2020 CrossFit Games Finals, let’s talk about how you can maximize the spectator experience without actually being on site.

Host a Virtual or In-Person Watch Party

Hosting a gathering with other CrossFit fanatics is a great way to enjoy the competition — virtually or in person. It all starts Friday, Oct. 23, and will stream online and on TV. See the full streaming schedule here

Make sure you know which mode of viewing you’ll be using, and find a way to transmit it to the big screen! More tips on that here. Grab some snacks, some beverages, and some friends for a viewing experience full of surprises, fitness, and fun.

Best Virtual Watch Party Platforms

Hosting a virtual watch party is easy with the many platforms available — and since many of us are working from home, you won’t need to worry about your boss looking over your shoulder! Check out the best options below to watch the finals with your friends at a distance.

Zoom: The host will need at least a Zoom Pro account to watch for longer than 40 min. Otherwise, new links will need to be created in 40-min. increments. The host starts the stream and shares their screen for all to see.

Google Meet: The host will need at least a Google Workspace Essentials account to allow for an extended-length viewing experience. The host starts the stream and shares their screen for all to see.

Facebook: When you start a watch party, you can watch any public videos on Facebook in real time with a group of your friends.

You can create a watch party from your Facebook news feed or timeline, in a group, on a page, or from any video you're watching. Keep in mind that you'll need to be an admin or editor to start a watch party on a page. More on this here

Use Hashtags

The official hashtag for the 2020 CrossFit Games is #CrossfitGames, and we’re using #CFGCheers to cheer on the athletes. Use these on social media to support and encourage athletes and staff, and follow along with everyone else enjoying the finals. You can find all the athletes’ Instagram profiles here

Hashtags are a great way to interact with the greater CrossFit community at large. By using a hashtag related to the CrossFit Games, you’re participating in a conversation on that social media platform. Some other popular hashtags already circulating Games coverage include: #CrossFitGames, #FittestonEarth, #FinalFive, and #CrossFit.

Follow the CrossFit Games Facebook, Games Instagram, Games Twitch, or CrossFit Games and CrossFit YouTube accounts to stay up to date on breaking news and competition highlights. Keep up with your favorite Games athletes through their individual Instagram pages.

Do the Workouts!

Throw the livestream on and WOD along with the 2020 CrossFit Games top 10. Are you an affiliate owner or coach? Program the workouts in your gym! Take on the CrossFit Total or grab a sack of something heavy and sprint up a hill to get a small taste of what this year’s athletes have to endure. Compare your score to the top athletes and use hashtags to post about your effort! See all the released events here.

The CrossFit community arguably embodies camaraderie more than any other sport out there. Even though we’re unable to gather in person for this year’s Games, we’re there in spirit, and our energy will carry over to the athletes and fuel their performances during Games weekend.
