I was proud to represent my box, CrossFit North Fulton, as their first athlete to qualify for The CrossFit Games. After the 2012 Games, I realized I needed to focus on strength to be a better Crossfiter. I competed in my first power lifting meet on October 9th. The USAPL Georgia and Southern States Power Lifting Championships. I broke all the GA State records for my age division in bench, squat, deadlift and total. I also broke the National records for deadlift and total. An injury impeded my Crossfiting from October into December. I have tried to work on my cardio after such a long break. In February I competed in Garage Games One and took first place in the 50 and over division. Impending wrist surgery may keep me from being successful in the Open this year and making it to the Games for 2013. But my long term goal is to be back in Cali for the 2014 Games when I will be competing in the 55-59 year old division. Fast forward to does not always go according to plan. I ended 2013 with a parathyroid disease diagnosis, a partial distal bicep tendon tear and 2 bulging discs, L3 and L4. I had two doctors tell me I would never CF or PL again, so in true CF fashion, I went to a third doc! I had surgery Oct 2nd to remove my two tumors (parathyroid disease) and after finding a PT who was a CF'r and therapy of dry needling and cupping for my bicep and buldging discs I was able to slowly start going back to the gym after pretty much sitting on my butt for many months. I signed up for the Open this year just to see how much I had lost, but in actuality, it has made me get in the gym and get moving again. I'm glad I did!
