Rosario Rios Aguilar has been coaching CrossFit for 11 years, but her athletic career goes back much further. Her passion for athletics began at age 4, when she was growing up in a "jungle-like" town in Chiapas, Mexico. Rosario went on to be a member of the National Basketball Team, and she was crowned Mexico’s Tae Kwon Do National Champion. In college, she participated in track and field, where she became conference champion in the high jump, 400 hurdles and heptathlon and still holds several school records. She was captain of her college basketball team and was named Most Valuable Player in 2009 where she was also ranked #1 in the State of California, and 9th in the country as a heptathlete. She played professional basketball in Germany and Belgium and continued on as an instructor for USA Track and Field teaching Level 1 and Level 2 across the country. Rosario's knowledge of fitness, nutrition and training along with her ability to connect with people from all backgrounds is her greatest strength. She has been in the fitness and sports industry as a personal trainer, performance specialist and motivational coach/speaker for 20 years now. Her expertise on athletic performance, power training, balance/postural correction, sports medicine, speed training, weightlifting, and martial arts make her one of the best in everything she works with. Rosario has since worked as a strength and conditioning coach at various high schools in Southern California, Cal State University of Long Beach, and UCLA. She also worked as a Track and Field Coach at Whittier College, specializing in multi-events and hurdles, taking her athletes to NCAA nationals. She is currently the head strength and conditioning coach for UFC Brazilian fighters Mayra Bueno Silva and Gloria De Paula and is looking to help many others. Rosario has spent 10 years as an Elite Athlete and Ambassador for the ASICS brand and corporation. She was in several ASICS training commercials, and facilitated input in future training developments within the brand and science base shoe design. Rosario has high expectations for all her athletes as well as for herself and lives everyday day life with a purpose. She wants to radiate and transfer knowledge to her clients and athletes on how to become the best they can be as well as providing the tools needed to become more than average. Rosario's philosophy on training is train with high intensity, train smart, and have fun! Coach RRA as her athletes call her, spends her time training, studying, learning all aspects of fitness and martial arts. She loves water sports and quality time with loved ones. You might find her eating bananas and a protein shake quite often. "History is making a positive difference in someone's life each day I am alive," she says. "I believe that is my purpose in this world and a higher power has given me the strength, support and opportunities to continue seeking this gift. I am beyond grateful and forever a student.”
