I ran 1/2 marathons, marathons, and ultras for 30 years. Because of the high mileage (37,000+), needed back surgery in 2010. Began Crossfit in January 2011 3x/week. Now, after two years I do strength and WOD's 5-6 days/week. CF 1 Trainer.

For 30+ years I ran 1/2 marathons, marathons and ultra's. In 2010, because of 35,000+ miles, I required back surgery. Surgeon said no more running (maybe he meant long distances). After 9 months sitting around (getting over the surgery) I saw the "old, fat guy" in the mirror and decided to do something about it. A friend introduced me to CF and "after several visits" tried it 3x/week. I now work out 5-6 days/week and eat (lean meats, vegs, fruits, nuts, and seeds) well. I can look back now and see that without the back surgery, my "total" body conditioning would have never been realized. CF Level 1 trainer. 28th in 60+ age group in 2012 CF Games.
