Proving yourself among the Fittest on Earth just got a little more profitable.

CrossFit is increasing the winnings not just for the podium finishers, but also adding cash awards to the men and women who finish fourth through 10th.

Plus, for the first time ever, cash will be given to the top three finishers in each event.

Of course, it pays to be at the top. Winning the 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games now nets $275,000. Second and third grow to $65,000 and $35,000, respectively. Fourth overall now pays $10,000, with amounts for fifth through 10th descending by $1,000.

The existing awards to Teams and Masters prizes are also increasing. The top three teams take $40,000, $20,000 and $10,000.

Everyone knows consistency across all the events is more important to being crowned champion than winning any one particular event. While that remains true, the men and women who finish top three in each individual event will now be rewarded separately with checks for $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000.

This means the last two year's prize purse of $1 million for the season is now more than 40 percent larger. We can't tell you the exact purse because that would reveal the number of events at this year's Games. This, of course, remains one of the unknown elements until some point during the week of the Games.

That week begins with the athletes arriving in Carson, Calif., on Monday, July 22. Last year, there were 15 scored events over a span of five days including a surprise grueling ocean swim, bike and mountain run at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. This year, every single component is still a mystery.
