How many times has someone in your life said these words to you..."Oh, you'll like this?" Maybe it was about a movie, a book, something to eat or drink. For me, it was about CrossFit. In May of 2010, after a lifelong battle with weight, poor nutrition and a lack of exercise, I needed a change. Osteoarthritis plus extra bodyweight was not a recipe for success. In fact, I was on the verge of requiring a knee replacement. And then someone suggested CrossFit. After trying a variety of different diet and exercise programs that did not provide lasting results, CrossFit seemed to work. It was always changing, never boring, limit testing, humbling, exciting, and life changing. The challenges that come with doing CrossFit are different for everyone. For me, being active and improving nutrition was a challenge in itself. But I stuck with it and in 2015, 5 years later, my dream of making it to the CrossFit Games became a reality! Now in 2016, I will be competing for the second year in a row. I have been married for 40+ years and have two married children and 6 grandchildren. Our daughter, Khara Chunn is a CF-L2 coach at CrossFit Discovery in Charleston, SC. She has been writing the programming, with the help of CrossFit Weightlifting, for myself and my brother-in-law Lance Schaefer who is competing for the 3rd year in the Master's Men 60+.
How I Eat
I eat quality foods but don't measure the amount
I keep it simple. Grilled meats, vegetables, fruit and some nuts. Cheat meal from time to time but not on a regular basis.
How I Train
I workout mostly at a CrossFit Affiliate
I have a coach who determines my programming
My daughter, Khara Chunn, CF-L2, has been doing my programming, with the help of CrossFit Weightlifting, since the 2016 Open.

I played youth or high school level sports
For me being somewhat competitive in nature Crossfit is perfect! I love working out with family members and my Crossfit family.
