Bio

I have competed each year of the Open (since 2011). This year, however, in solidarity with transgender athletes, I can no longer submit a score. CrossFit has been a very positive development in my life. I love it and, to me, it's all about community. So it's very confounding that CrossFit excludes trans athletes when the Olympics and NCAA have policies in place allowing them to compete.

How I Eat

I weigh and measure my food

I have lost 23 lbs since last year's Open. (Shout out to Weight Watchers!) I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian, and try to eat mostly real food, paying lots of attention to protein. I track my food using WW app and that has made the difference for me in learning how to eat. I'm feeling great and hoping I can show gains at the gym.

My Athletic Background

I have no athletic background besides CrossFit

I was an active kid and in my teens did some biking but was never very interested in sports.

My Experience With CrossFit

I began CrossFit with a coach (e.g. at an affiliate)

I have had a life changing experience due to CrossFit

As an out of shape adult, an exercise boot camp saved me and was the gateway drug to CrossFit. I started running for the first time in my life. Friends introduced me to an affiliate in my neighborhood. I completed a Level 1 Endurance certification. Peak CrossFit experiences include getting my first unassisted pull up after the age of 50; sumo deadlifting 187 under the coaching of Rudy Nielsen & Laura DeMarco; rope swinging while visiting Urban CrossFit; basking in the afterglow of team workouts with my wonderful peeps at CFRX and volunteering for SE Regionals and for the Games!

My Work/Rest Schedule

I usually only do 1 workout a day

I typically rest 4 or more days per month

I bike commute 4 miles roundtrip a day/5 days a week. I go to the gym 3-5 days a week.
