I am 62 years old with one son, 40 and 2 grandchildren. I am more fit now that I have ever been. I compete locally and did my first Spartan race this year. I am doing another in September! I took the Level 1 course this year and will coaching in August after the Games are behind me. I retired when I was 60 after working at a major Health Care company for 32 years. I have been working part time at my gym at the front desk and will do that as well as coach going forward. CrossFit is about me and what I can do to better myself and benchmark what I am able to do to ensure I stay healthy and fit. I am happy to just be back the Games this year!
How I Eat
I eat quality foods but don't measure the amount
As strict as I can be... I have I changed up my diet somewhat this past year. I was a perfect example of how you cannot out -train a bad diet. I ran 20 miles or more a week with was still not "fit" until I took note of how I ate and started CrossFit 4 years ago. I am careful not to eat processed foods and try to follow the CrossFit Nutrition guidelines for good health most of the time.... Meat and veggies, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar
How I Train
I workout mostly at a CrossFit Affiliate
I work out 5times a week at CrossFit Industrious. I do a boot camp class after my morning workout on those days to keep my cardio where I want it. I participate in local CrossFit competitions and 5-K runs to keep me engaged and having fun with my CrossFit community and running buddies. We have open gym that allows me to come in and practice accessory skills.
My Athletic Background
I have no athletic background besides CrossFit
I really had no background. I did not play sports in school. I was on a swim team for a short time and began swimming again at 35 years old. I had been runner for 28 years but had never done anything like CF and never thought I could. It has changed my whole way of looking at fitness and what it means. I have never been fitter at 62 than any other time in my life. I completed my first Spartan race this last year and came in 1st in my Division! I love them! I am doing another in September with my gym.
My Experience With CrossFit
I began CrossFit by trying it alone (without a coach)
I have had a life changing experience due to CrossFit
I fell in love with the energy and camaraderie from the beginning and the coaches are the best I have seen. They have encouraged me to grow and continue to do so. I received my Level 1 this year which was a goal of mine as I have a passion for Master's PLUS women and would like to coach boot camps at this level. I have qualified 2 years in a row for the games and so happy to have done it this year!
My Work/Rest Schedule
I do multiple workouts in a day 3+ times a week
Crossfit is hardcoded in my weekly calendar and I go 5 times a week with 3 of the days to include a second boot camp workout for cardio. I am taking time to really recover this year and stay healthy. I feel that recovery becomes more and more important as I get older!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I intend to be a lifer. I intend to improve, get stronger and push myself to remain active while sharing this lifestyle with other Master's women. It is the Fountain of Youth. I am looking forward to coaching in August after the Games are behind me!
