Athlete: Brenton Stone
How I Eat
I eat quality foods but don't measure the amount
I eat 1-3 full cheat meals per week
I try to be as Paleo as possible without being nuts about it; about 80/20 I'd say. Have a couple cheat meals per week. Always start my mornings with a protein shake as soon as I roll out of bed (Progenex MoreMuscle is the Bomb!) and always have a post-WOD shake, usually about 5 mins after a handful of raisins.
How I Train
I workout mostly at a CrossFit Affiliate
I record my workouts
I do the CrossFit training programmed at my box (Crossfit Reston) by a GREAT, KNOWLEDGEABLE, AMAZING ATHLETE (and CF Games veteran): JEFF TINCHER, and dedicated Olympic lifting programmed by my awesome Oly coach, Mehdi el-Amine. A typical week is 3 days of Oly lifting (M-W-Sa), and 3 days of WODs (T-Th-F).
My Athletic Background
I played youth or high school level sports
I was small in high school so I played on the golf team. :-) I started working out my senior year and began making noticeable gains in size and strength. I continued bodybuilding (not competitively) until mid-2011, when I was introduced to CrossFit by my girlfriend.
My Experience With CrossFit
I began CrossFit with a coach (e.g. at an affiliate)
My girlfriend is a pretty big deal in CrossFit (Top 12 @ 2011 CF Games) so I heard about it all the time. I was curious to see if I was naturally good at any of the movements, so I joined CrossFit Reston. I like that it's constantly varied (don't get bored from week to week) and also that she could help me work on deficiencies, techniques, and tips.
My Work/Rest Schedule
I usually only do 1 workout a day
I typically rest 4 or more days per month
I typically try to do Olympic lifting 3x per week, and fill in the other days with WODs. I adjust as needed, depending on how my body feels and my weekend plans.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started 1 week before going out to L.A. to watch my girlfriend compete in the 2011 CF Games.
