Who Took 17.4?

We’re in the home stretch of the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games Open, but that certainly doesn’t mean things are getting any easier.

Open Workout 17.4 was a repeat—a brutal repeat. The 13-minute AMRAP of deadlifts, wall-ball shots, rowing and handstand push-ups brought out the worst pain faces in even the most capable athletes.

For most of us, this workout was a chipper with a 13-minute time cap. Getting into the second round was a pipe dream. But when all was said and done, one man and one woman out-worked the rest of us—and they were both well into Round 2.

2013’s Fittest Woman on Earth Sam Briggs completed 330 reps in the chipper-style AMRAP. Briggs’ tie-break time was 12:59, which means she finished her second set of wall-ball shots 1 second before time expired.

Fittest Man on Earth Mat Fraser is on top for the men this week. Fraser completed 327 reps with a tie-break time of 11:04. He was 52 wall-ball shots into Round 2 before the clock hit 13 minutes.

There’s one more week left in the worldwide Open, and soon we’ll know which individuals and teams will advance to one of CrossFit’s eight Regionals, and which masters and teenagers will move on to the Online Qualifier.
