In 2018, Dave Castro allowed athletes and fans to determine an Open workout for the first time.
“18.5 is going to be decided by you, the CrossFit community,” the Director of the CrossFit Games announced.
Each of the three options was a repeat of a previous Open workout, so most fans already knew how 11.6, 13.5 and 14.2 felt.
When all the votes were tallied, the community chose to repeat Open Workout 11.6—a seven-minute escalating couplet of thrusters and chest-to-bar pull-ups.
Three of Iceland’s Dottirs—Annie Thorisdottir, Katrin Davidsdottirand Sara Sigmundsdottir—tackled Open Workout 18.5 immediately following the live announcement in a packed house in Reykjavík, Iceland.
Sigmundsdottir embraced the challenge with stoic resolve.
“If I die, I die,” she said.
