Longtime CrossFitter Alex Nettey is going to the CrossFit Games for the first time as an Individual. After competing in 2009 on a team, he tried for three years to get to the Games as an Individual.

Nettey says fellow North Central competitors Elisabeth Akinwale and Deborah Cordner Carson have been inspirational to him as a black athlete.

"Hopefully, I can inspire people or draw more African-Americans into the sport, by all means, I think that's going to broaden the pool," Nettey says.
