Michael Abbott was born on the mean streets of Los Angeles where guns and gangs ruled the land. Forced to grow up way too early, he learned to survive and rise above the pain and rejection of being raised in a broken home. At the age of 18, with his life spiraling out of control, he fell to his knees atop a desert mountain in Death Valley California and cried out to God… and there in that arid environment he found the wellspring of life. The next few years were a roller coaster including college, marriage and a move across the country in obedience to a word from the Lord. It was in the mountains of Western North Carolina where he left his pursuit of medical school and answered the call to serve God’s people. In 1997 Mike, as his friends like to call him, entered the Master’s Commission ministry training program at New Covenant Church, Clyde, NC. After graduating summa cum laude, he continued his education through Christian Life School of Theology where he went on to earn his Masters degree. He has served as a Children’s Pastor, Youth Pastor, Business Administrator and Ministry School Director among other roles. He currently oversees LifeWay Community Church, with campuses in Western North Carolina and North Georgia. Ministry has been the adventure of a lifetime, taking him across the country and around the world preaching the gospel, equipping leaders and strengthening the church. His clear and engaging style of communication cuts through the religious white noise and calls people to more. He has had the honor of serving on the executive boards of Covenant Life Ministries, Evangel Fellowship International and several community organizations. An entrepreneur at heart he has started, owned and operated several small business, the first which he began at the tender age of 16. In the Kingdom, that translates into his burden to plant churches and launch people into their God given destinies. His interests include auto racing, CrossFit, wake boarding and mountain biking, but his passion is people. Friends and family are the true treasures of this life and his crowing jewels are his beautiful wife Sonya and their three amazing daughters, Aimee, Anneka and Addisen.
