Gary Young, BS,MA,CSCS,USATF is an athlete, professor, and strength coach. / 2018: I have competed in sports since I was in elementary school. I've worked as a strength coach for twenty years (CSCS). I've been teaching university for twelve years. Three Principles: One: Use CrossFit training to build a solid strength and conditioning foundation for your competitive sport. Use a balanced approach. Two: Only by faith can a man build himself spiritually. Three: To be on the arena floor and not in the stands is a victory. - Gary Young / 2019: Movement is HealthCare. Circulation. Immunity. Digestion. Inflammation. Nervous System Balance. Hormonal Balance. God gave us movement for a reason. If you come in first or last, it's not the main point. The main point is, you challenged you, and you took a risk. We train to challenge our weakness, which is, how we build and maintain strength. To advanced athletes: Some days you are naturally stronger. Some days you are naturally weaker. This is to be expected. Peaks and valleys. Press on. John 8:32 - Gary Young 2021: Every man needs a stone to sharpen himself against, or, like a fine blade long untouched, his edge turns dull. We need sharpening every day. Sharpening by training, sharpening by reading, sharpening by serving - sharpening by praying. We are called to hope, if we choose to practice faith. 1 Peter 1:3 2022: Rich Froning said it best - God gave us a body for work, for hard work. Why did He give us so much delicious food? To fuel work. Diabetes comes from eating to eat. Health and wellness flows of eating to work, whether you do that work with a spade and a wheelbarrow, a bicycle and a briefcase, or a barbell and a running trail. The meaning of food is physical movement. Point two: Oreos, Pringles, and Poptarts do not correspond to our physiomental system. Potatoes, Tomatoes, and Cashews do. Man concocts the former; God already engineered the latter. Final point: Use all kinds of self-massage and stretching to 'give back' to your body. Only taking leads to compounded tension and injury. Keep training.
