Born into a family of competitive nerf herders, I was the black nerf of the family, never really finding an appetite for the sport. At the age of 18, I packed my towel and set my sights on a place far, far away where I could finally be accepted for who I am: Someone who fits in with the misfits, has an appreciation for the mediocre things in life and ultimately likes to find balance in all things. Crossfit called out to me in a voice oddly reminiscent of the late Rodney Dangerfield on helium (which, honestly, was probably those button looking things I ate in the desert along my journey, but I digress) during what I think was a dream sometime in 2012. Being the practical guy I am, I waited for a groupon to present itself at the right cost and location just off the Palmetto Expressway in Miami and, when it did, I pounced like a rabid tiger on meth. I scored a 30 day membership for the low low price of $49 (plus tax and pain). I walked into my first WOD at 235 lbs, on three meds for BP and cholesterol and an appointment with diabetes. I walked out absolutely soaked, shaking, gasping for breath and starving. That was 6/17/13. I'll see you at the box tonight.
