I grew up being more of a couch potato than an athlete. I did play volleyball in high school and a little IM in college. It wasn't until my mid/late 30's that I got more consistent with being active. My first introduction to a gym (other than the treadmill) was a small group class, I think it was called Anger Management, by a personal trainer who also had a black belt. I fell in love. I got much more fit and healthy. and then life decided to throw a curve ball, with rupturing my appendix. I fell off the wagon and struggled to get back on. I've been holding on to the rope and following the wagon pretty well, just really working at getting ON the wagon. In 2019 I followed a recommendation to try CrossFit. It was scary and intimidating (and to be honest, it still is), but MAN I have found my jam. I love lifting weight. (I've done machines at the neighborhood gym, but didn't enjoy them like I do free weights.) I love surprising myself with how I can grow and succeed at things that I thought were not possible, or too much, or just scary. I love the coaches I have. They are so kind and compassionate and understanding, but don't let me stay in a place of comfort. From Coach Randy, "just add the little plate, even if it's 1 pound each."
