Staying physically fit is of paramount importance in both my personal and professional life. I was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic in early 2012 while in the hiring process to become a Police Officer. In the span of a little over two hours one morning, March 2012, I saw three doctors, one of which recommended my potential employer not hire me because of it. I was immediately placed on an insulin regimen to help bring my blood sugar levels back under control and told I would be on that or similar medication for the rest of my life. I was told I was very fortunate to find out the way that I did since most people wake up in a hospital after a hypo/hyperglycemic episode where they lose consciousness. Luckily for me, I've never experienced either of those events. I chose Crossfit after watching the games on TV and seeing the amazing things the athletes could do. Fast forward a couple of years, having to take some time off and adding three amazing children to the family, my reasons for continuing to show up for WOD grow in importance. Not only do I want to make sure I’m around to watch my children grow up and have families of their own, I made the commitment to make sure ALL of my Blue family goes home after work. I want to enjoy a long life filled with time spent around those I love and mean the most to me; my family. I Crossfit for them.
