The 2021 CrossFit Games season kicked off March 11 with the worldwide Open. As announced in December, the 2021 season looks different than years past. For aspiring individual athletes and teams, the season begins with the Open and progresses to the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Last-Chance Qualifier, and ultimately the 2021 CrossFit Games.
So what exactly are the stages of the season and how do they work? We’re going to break it down for you starting with the Quarterfinals.
The top 10 percent of men and women and top 25 percent of teams from the CrossFit Open on each continent will be invited to compete in the online Quarterfinals. Any athlete or team wishing to compete in the Quarterfinals must accept their invitation and register for Quarterfinals before the close of the competition.
Teams intending to compete in the Quarterfinals must also declare an official roster composed of two men and two women, with an option to add one man and one woman as alternates. Please note: Once the competition begins, the roster will be final. See section 2.03 of the CrossFit Games Rulebook for more details.
The Quarterfinals are an online competition in which athletes will be required to compete in a series of events over the course of one weekend, Thursday through Monday.
To be eligible to advance to the Semifinals, athletes and teams must complete the events as written and submit their scores on time using one of two options:
- They must perform the events with a registered judge and have their scores validated by a licensed CrossFit affiliate in good standing.
- They may elect to submit videos of the workouts online for judging and validation. All videos submitted for review must adhere to the video submission guidelines provided.
Please note: All athletes and teams must be prepared to submit video of any given workout for review.
Individual athletes will compete in the Quarterfinals from April 8 - April 12, 2021. Teams will compete in the Quarterfinals from April 22 - April 26, 2021.
The Quarterfinals may be completed at a CrossFit affiliate or elsewhere, so long as the events are performed with a registered judge and validated by a licensed CrossFit affiliate in good standing.
Alternatively, athletes and teams may elect to submit videos of the workouts online for judging and validation. All videos submitted for review must adhere to the video submission guidelines provided.
Those competing in the Quarterfinals will be one step closer to competing at the CrossFit Games.
