Here is everything you need to know about competition levels and what they have to do with CrossFit’s Community Cup competition.

Competition levels will help athletes of every fitness and ability level find and compete against others of a similar level in CrossFit’s Community Cup competition, presented by YETI

Competition levels will be automatically assigned to every athlete who registers and submits a score for all three workouts in the 2025 CrossFit Games Open.

But what exactly does this mean? This article will break down what competition levels are, how they connect to the new Community Cup competition, and why you should care.

What Are Competition Levels?

Think of your competition level as a number that represents your current fitness level. Based on where you finished on the 2025 CrossFit Open leaderboard, your level will group you with other athletes within that percentile.

During the Community Cup, you will only be competing against athletes with similar abilities to you, as shown in the table below:

The Community Cup Tiers

Community Cup Tiers Percentile Ages 16-54 Levels
Pro 99-100 10
88-98 9
Advanced 77-87 8 Ages 55+ Levels
66-76 7 10 Ages 14-15 Levels
Intermediate 55-65 6 9 8-10
44-54 5 8
Novice 33-43 4 7 7
22-32 3 6 6
Rookie 11-21 2 1-5 1-5
0-10 1

The three workouts you complete during the Community Cup will be affiliate-friendly and tailored for each level. Think of this as a version of the workout specially designed for your fitness abilities. It’s meant to challenge you in movements you may have been working on since the Open and test your training as we hit the mid-year point.

How You Get a Level

Step 1: Register for the 2025 CrossFit Games Open.

Step 2: Complete and submit scores for all three Open workouts.

Step 3: Your level will be displayed on your athlete dashboard at Games.CrossFit.com.

VIEW YOUR LEVEL

Note: Age-group athletes will see two levels on their dashboard, one based on their placement in the individual division and one in their age group. You will be grouped in your Community Cup tier based on your individual level (not age-group level).

Why Should You Care About Levels?

Yes, your competition level is an important part of the registration process for the 2025 Community Cup. But it’s much more than that.

If you’re someone who thrives on competition, the Community Cup will be another competition to strive for. But this time, your level will put you on the same playing field as your peers. Want to jump to a higher level next year? The Community Cup will show you how you stack up against others at your level and where you can improve heading into the 2026 CrossFit Open.

If you’re someone who doesn’t care much about competition, think of your level as a baseline to measure your fitness. Have you improved some of your weaknesses since the Open? Use the Community Cup as your mid-year check-in to make training feel more purposeful, fueling your effort and commitment to your fitness.

Prepare for the 2025 Community Cup

The Community Cup is a fun, affiliate-based online competition to gauge where you sit against other athletes of similar abilities.

How it Works

  1. Complete the Open to receive your official level, grouping you with other similarly skilled athletes, regardless of age or location.
  2. View your assigned competition level on your athlete dashboard
  3. Register for the 2025 Community Cup beginning May 12.
  4. Use the time between the Open and Community Cup to tackle areas of your fitness you want to improve.
  5. From June 9-15, compete in the Community Cup in your assigned tier based on your level from the Open. The competition will run similarly to the Open in that athletes will complete three workouts at an affiliate, submit scores online, and see their rankings on the leaderboard. All workouts will be announced approximately one week before the start of competition, and athletes can complete the workouts in any order during the week-long competition window.
