After two consecutive worldwide Open victories, Rich Froning has finally been bested.

Week 4 of the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games Open smells a lot like summer vacation did the week before school started. The inevitable odor of something special leaving, while something unknown rolled right in.

Open Workout 12.4 brought out the best, and inevitably the worst in CrossFit competitors all over the world. By the looks of the Central East Leaderboard, a few Hail Mary’s missed their marks, while a few touchdowns slid by uncontested.

MEN

After two consecutive worldwide Open victories, Rich Froning has finally been bested reminding the world, the CrossFit Games Champion is human.

While Froning did not manage a third worldwide Open victory, he did manage to reign supreme within the Central East hitting a 12.4 score of 309. His training partner, and frequent runner-up, Dan Bailey on the other hand, managed a five-way tie for 18th posting his score late Sunday evening.

With a score of 295 during 12.4, runner-up Dave Ulmer proves the top of the pyramid is only one workout away. Ulmer, with the likes of 2010 Games champion Graham Holmberg, Marcus Hendren and Joseph Weigel suggest that the Open is like a fine wine, it gets better with age.

WOMEN

Since the second week of the Open, Central East’s Julie Foucher has gone head to head with 2010 CrossFit Games champion Kristan Clever in a battle that has California written all over it.

With less than 6 total points accumulated in four Central East workouts (34 worldwide) Foucher has all but solidified her regional Open victory leaving the battle for 2nd among Lindsey Smith, Michelle Kinney and Joellyn McAtee, a very close race.

Outstanding 12.4 performances from Jolene Grant (260) Julie Broadbent (258) and Heather Welch (255) were not unlike their male counterparts when it came to shifting the Leaderboard Landscape. All females mentioned managed to jump no less than eight spots from Week 3 to week four leaving well over two-hundred female competitors in a 240 rep tie below them.

TEAM

Finishing 3rd in the world with a 12.4 score of 1,568, SPC CrossFit continues their Central East domination they began in Week 2. In fact, 7 points now separate SPC CrossFit, from CrossFit Faith, leaving Rouge Gahanna a close 3rd.

As team competitions continue to prove themselves to be the most volatile mixture in the sport, it becomes more and more clear those who anticipate victory, and those who merely hope for it.

There is one week left prove yourself. With the close of 12.4, only one chance remains to claim your future in the season.
